I was raised Catholic and, as many people do within religious structures, I learned about money through a spiritual lens.
- A surplus of money equaled a responsibility to help the less fortunate.
- A lack of money equaled a spiritual search of how a person might not be showing up as a good Christian in the community.
- All flow of money equaled blessings, but caution… always caution.
The energy of money in my life was always tied to other people, and their energetic efforts.
In the process of recreating my business from the inside out, from the intuitive perspective, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about money. How much do I need to accomplish my goals? How much would I like to earn? How much is enough vs. How much sounds wonderful? These questions bounced me right back to childhood bible stories about money lenders… that feeling of money always being bound to others’ actions.
During a call with my business coach yesterday, I confessed to her that I was still confused about which energy to put first in my business endeavors - the Money, or the Work.
“Do I make the work the horse, and the income the cart? Or do I reverse it? Which energy is better to focus on to guarantee the income I need?” I asked.
“Kittie,” she said, “the first thing you need to do is throw away that analogy. There is no cart and there is no horse. Money isn’t tied to your customers or your work. Money is its own energy.”
I don’t know about you, but this concept is a huge adjustment for my money mentality! Every job I’ve had before now was a trade: my time and skill for their money. So of course it’s the logical place for any new business owner to start.
And yet, when we begin from the belief that the money we earn is tied to the work we do, we close the door on the possibility of an entirely different energetic exchange. We immediately decide the energy of money cannot be neutral and, therefore, cannot flow to us in independent and unexpected ways.
Whenever I find myself in an old belief system (as I did yesterday) I want to change, I ask myself: What If?
- What if money was a truly neutral energy?
- What if money was its own energy, separate and free from attachment to anything or anyone?
- What if money was an energetic force we can shape with our thoughts and beliefs?
- What if money was a flow completely detached from any other energetic activity?
What could this mean for abundance and manifestation?
After our coaching call, I went into my studio and changed up my vision board (which holds both my business planning and my manifestation intentions). Instead of wording my goals in a way that connected my income with my work, I stated my income goals and my work goals clearly and parallel to one another.
Now, instead of driving a cart behind a horse, I’m allowing these two energetic commitments to be equal pillars of support for my desired life.
I still feel a bit wobbly about planning my business income from the perspective that it’s going to flow parallel to my work, and not dependent on it… but the wobbly feeling comes from not having experience with it! It’s a brave new world. Thankfully, everything I know about manifestation supports this new energetic way of being with money and with the work I do, so it’s time to lean into my own inner magic and see what unfolds.
I let my medicine flow into the world, and abundance returns to me.
