One of the most powerful things we can do is allow our human bodies to feel the push and pull of the earth’s seasons. It’s also one of the most difficult things, when we live in a modern, always-on society.
This is not a post about society; it is what it is, and I personally am grateful for the evolution of things like ambulances, and late-night Mexican food, and electricians.
This is a post about being energy in a physical form, and how tricky this existence is when we feel cut off from the natural ebb and flow around us.
Whether you live near a pole or the equator, whether you live in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere, this planet we call home has seasons; energetic shifts that influence everything around us. Weather, growth cycles, animal activity - it’s all interconnected. And we feel it, whether or not we realize it.
As with so many of my blogs, this post is mostly a reminder to myself. A reminder to let go. Relax. Chill the eff out. Release the driving need to Be and Do and Achieve. Sink down into this deep, dark chill that is Winter and allow myself to surrender to its pull on my person.
For I can still accomplish things of import while honoring my body’s desire to move slowly, sleep more, and snuggle up for extra warmth and security.
As we transition into Solstice, then Christmas and the calendar New Year, my wish for myself is to honor the ancient part of me that recognizes this time of year as a space to get quiet and count blessings, to respect the chilly fear of death and decay, to look forward to the sweet blossoming warmth of Spring.
And if you’re feeling tired, frazzled, overworked, cold, and in need of a warm drink, I wish this for you too.
Honor the cycles that swing around us, for our belief that we control them is a mighty illusion. Honor those you love. Honor your needs. Honor yourself.
